Motors Patrol

The Jackson Police Department maintains a small fleet of three electric motorcycles for use in regular patrol and traffic enforcement.  Officers selected for this detail, do so when weather and staffing permit.

Our electric motorcycles are manufactured in California by a company called Zero.  They create zero emissions and require very little maintenance.  The Zero motorcycle weights 413 lbs. and depending on the model, can travel about 100 miles of city driving, 70 miles of highway driving and can reach speeds of 98 mph.  Officers are able to ride an entire 12 hours shift without running the batteries down.  When they're finished for the day, they just plug it into a standard wall outlet and the bike will charge overnight.  It costs about $1.48 to charge it back up, saving the police department in fuel costs.

The only thing officers can't do, is transport prisoners on the back.
