[ARCHIVED] JACKSON POLICE ARE REQUESTING PUBLIC REMAIN CLEAR OF THE AREA SURROUNDING TOWN CREEK APARTMENTS

Jackson, Wyo. December 31, 2020 – UPDATE 11:00am

The suspect in the stabbing incident from earlier this morning remains inside of his apartment.  Jackson Police and Teton County Sheriff Officers have evacuated residents of the apartment building and the nearby area.   Residents of the Town Creek apartment complex have been cleared to leave the area.

There was a quick initial response by Jackson Police Officers, Teton County Sheriff’s Deputies and Jackson Hole Fire/EMS.   The initial call came into Teton County Dispatch at 11:53am.  At 11:58 am a Jackson Police Officer arrived on scene.  At 12:02 am a medic unit from Jackson Hole Fire/EMS was on scene.  

Many individuals are working on this situation including members of the Jackson Police Department, the Teton County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson Hole Fire/EMS as well as local counselors and probation officers.  In addition the Sweetwater County Tactical Response Team from Rock Springs has been activated by the Department of Homeland Security and are currently in route to Jackson. These individuals have been specifically trained for this type of situation.   

If there are any members of the community that have been impacted by this event and need additional support they are encouraged to call the Jackson Hole Community Counseling Center's 24-hour crisis line at (307) 733-2046.  

The plan is to continue to ensure the safety and well-being of the community and we are asking people to stay away from the area surrounding the Town Creek apartment complex located at 355 West Deloney Avenue (located behind El Abuelito’s restaurant).

The situation is on-going and further updates will be provided once additional information is obtained.

The suspect in the stabbing incident from earlier this morning remains inside of his apartment.  Jackson Police and Teton County Sheriff Officers have evacuated residents of the apartment building and the nearby area.   Residents of the Town Creek apartment complex have been cleared to leave the area.

The plan is to continue to ensure the safety and well-being of the community and are asking people to stay away from the area surrounding the Town Creek apartment complex located at 355 West Deloney Avenue (located behind El Abuelito’s restaurant).

Currently the Jackson Police has 12 members of the department working this ongoing situation.  In addition, the Teton County Sheriff has 6 members of their department actively involved.   

The Jackson Police Department has reached out to local counselors and probation officers who are familiar with the suspect to assist with the situation.         

Once again, for the safety of the community, the Jackson Police Department requests that members of the public to stay away from this area while the situation is ongoing.

The situation is on-going and further updates will provided once additional information is obtained.

Initial Press Release            

Jackson, Wyo. December 31, 2020 – On Wednesday, December 30, 2020, just before midnight, Jackson Police Officers responded to 355 Deloney Avenue, the Town Creek apartment complex, regarding a possible stabbing. The victim, a 52-year-old male resident of Jackson, was discovered by officers suffering from a stabbing wound.  He was initially transported to St. John’s Health after which time he was transferred to Eastern Idaho Medical Center in Idaho Falls.  No further information on the victim’s condition is known at this time.  

Jackson Police along with Teton County Sheriff Officers are currently on scene and have identified a 38-year-old resident of Jackson as the suspect of the stabbing. After being approached by police, the suspect retreated into his apartment where he is currently located.  The suspect has stepped out of the apartment to the front porch at various points throughout the night.  Each time the suspect has retreated back into his apartment.  During one of these movements to his porch, officers utilized a less-than-lethal-weapon on the subject.   The subject was believed to be hit during this deployment, but appeared to be uninjured.  

Currently there are no additional suspects and Police are asking the public to remain clear of the Town Creek apartment complex at this time.  Residents living in this apartment building have been evacuated and relocated to a local hotel.   Residents of the Town Creek apartments who have not been evacuated are being allowed to leave the apartments.
