TOWN BUILDS TRACK FOR SLED DOG RACE

The Town of Jackson Public Works Department will begin construction of the racecourse for the annual Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race on town streets starting Friday morning, January 31, 2020.  Broadway will be closed from Cache to Willow Street beginning at 10:00am. Center Street will be closed from Broadway Avenue to Deloney Avenue beginning at 10:00am.   Race festivities are set to begin at the Town Square at 5:00pm on Friday, January 26 with the dog sled race officially kicking off at 6:30pm.  It is anticipated that the road closures will reopen by 9:00pm.

The race course will run the length of Broadway from Cache Street to Redmond Street.  The course will then proceed down Redmond to Cache Creek Drive.   The course will head west on Cache Creek Drive where it will enter onto Snow King property and finish at Phil Baux Park.  The Streets Division may be hauling in snow to supplement existing snow on roadways, then grade and smooth the snow against the curbs to form the course.

On Wednesday, January 29, the Jackson Police Department will begin posting “No Parking” signs along Broadway as well as along Redmond.  These no parking areas will go into effect on Friday morning, January 31.   Please be aware of and respect all “No Parking” signs including temporary signage.   Also, please be aware that the Jackson Public Works Department will be operating heavy equipment along Broadway and Redmond throughout the day on Friday.  Please give these employees and their equipment plenty of space.

“We are asking that the public be patient as we build this race course,” said Sam Jewison, Streets Manager.  “You will be able to get to where you need to go, but please expect a slight disruption of normal traffic patterns.” The Town of Jackson is requesting that drivers respect the road closure signs along Broadway, Redmond and Cache Creek Drive.

Crews are sensitive to the hours of operation for this effort and will do their best to keep noise to a minimum.  However, residents in the neighborhoods along the course route may hear the OSHA-required beeping of backing equipment and trucks driving in the area.
