The Mayor and Town Council recently announced that Lea Colasuonno has been selected to act as the Interim Town Attorney for the Town of Jackson. Colasuonno has been the Assistant Town Attorney since August of 2013 and moves into the interim position after Audrey Cohen-Davis resigned from the Town Attorney position on May 6, 2019.
“Lea is very qualified for this interim position,” said Mayor Pete Muldoon. “She has proven herself time and time again with her strong work ethic and dedication to public service.” The interim position of Town Attorney reports directly to the Town Council and advises the Council on the many legal aspects of Town of Jackson business.
Colasuonno graduated from George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. with a Juris Doctorate and moved to Jackson 6 years ago after working with the International Municipal Lawyer’s Association in Bethesda, Maryland. While in law school, Colasuonno worked several legal jobs including providing legal services to low-income, minority seniors, working at the U.S. EPA in the superfund, waste chemical and criminal enforcement divisions, and publishing numerous legal articles on topics ranging across federal environmental law and policy.
“I am looking forward to continuing my work with the Town of Jackson and its policy makers, and welcome this opportunity to serve as Interim Town Attorney,” Colasuonno remarked.
Since joining the Town’s legal department in 2013, Lea has worked on a wide variety of projects including tenant protections, nondiscrimination matters, liquor license issues, easement subjects, and contracts to name a few. She has also perpetually served as the prosecutor for the Town. Additionally, she has been proactive for the Town in short-term rental cases, criminal issues, litigation cases and legal research.
In terms of filling the Town Attorney position, Town Manager Larry Pardee said, “The Council may take some time to review the structure for legal services at the Town before it makes any decisions on moving forward.”
“We are confident in Lea’s efforts and her professional insight to serve as our Interim Town Attorney,” said Muldoon. “She has a proven track record of providing exceptional legal advice and service to the Council.”
