January 24 –Today Jackson’s Town Council appointed Alyson Spery as its fifth member for the next two years. When Mayor Arne Jorgensen was sworn in on January 6, an empty seat on the Town Council became available. The new Mayor and Councilmembers worked through an application and selection process from January 6 through today. Mayor Arne Jorgensen shared, “This process has been very rewarding, particularly because of the high quality of all the applicants. I’m still in awe of the five applicants we interviewed. All of them could fill this role well. All of them have important strengths.”
On Thursday, January 23, Council interviewed five candidates and deliberated yesterday and this morning in open public and Executive Sessions based on Wyoming Statute §16-4-405. After reconvening at 1:00pm, Town Council voted unanimously to appoint Alyson Sperry to fill the vacant Council seat. Various members of Council shared perspective about Spery’s unique skillset, perspective from the service industry, and outreach to the Latin segment of the community. In a summary about Spery’s interview, Mayor Jorgensen stated, “I appreciated Spery’s perspective considering changes in our community in terms of resiliency. She shared that homes change lives, including the reality of getting to pursue different opportunities when you have stable housing.”
Ms. Spery will serve the remaining two years of the unexpired term vacated by Jorgensen, which concludes in January of 2027. Town Council has four regular meetings on the first and third Mondays of each month and will hold its Annual Retreat to set priorities for the year on February 12 and 13. The entire Council offered gratitude to everyone that applied, to community members for engaging and sharing perspective, and to the media for their attention and coverage.
