Tyler Sinclair Named Town Manager

Having attended college in Calgary, Canada and earned a master’s in urban & Rural Planning from  Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Sinclair has spent the majority of his career working as a Planner in Jackson and Teton County. In 2012, Sinclair helped create and steward the joint Jackson/ Teton County Comprehensive Plan through the approval process. After some years as a joint Town and County Planning Director, Sinclair returned to the Town of Jackson full-time in 2018 to take on the new role of Community Development Director. From 2018 through last summer when he was appointed Interim Town Manager, Sinclair oversaw Community Development, the Town’s Building Department, and Long-Range Planning efforts.

A certified Planner since 1997, Sinclair has experience in Utah and Minnesota as well as Jackson, and has consistently been able to help find middle ground and facilitate compromise. From the Snow King Master Plan to numerous smaller planning projects, he has demonstrated skill at assessing situations, determining the next step forward, and keeping in mind potential long-term consequences of present-day actions.

Mayor Morton Levinson shares that, “Having worked with Tyler  for many years in my role on Council, I know him to be an authentic, honest, and knowledgeable person who is skilled at working toward solutions and is always willing to find the humor in situations. Having seen Tyler steward the lengthy Snow King Master Planning process and worked with him more closely over the last nine months, I believe he has exactly the right qualities to be Jackson’s Town Manager.”

As Interim Town Manager, Sinclair has seamlessly stretched into new territory, collaborating on a Class and Compensation study, spearheading a new annual strategic planning process at Council’s Retreat this year, and quickly learning the ins-and-outs of the budgeting process. In each instance, Sinclair’s depth of experience at the Town of Jackson has been an asset as he has gotten up-to-speed on everything from Snowplowing to Pathway projects while also consistently building trust with staff across the organization. In his years with the Town, Sinclair has been a major contributor to expanding opportunities for community members to engage with government processes and has shepherded community engagement opportunities that had previously only happened through the Planning Department throughout the organization.

Upon signing the contract today Tyler said, “The Town organization is made up of a team of hard working, talented, and dedicated public servants and I am grateful for the trust the Town Council has placed in me to lead this organization. While we have some challenges ahead including our ongoing efforts to improve housing and transportation for the community, I am confident in our ability to prioritize and make progress towards our goals. ”
