Christopher S. Leigh Appointed Municipal Judge for the Town of Jackson

Town Council appointed Christopher S. Leigh to be Municipal Judge, an opening created when Judge Melissa M. Owens was appointed to be District Court Judge for the Ninth Judicial District by Governor Gordon, which was vacated by Judge Timothy Day upon his retirement. Town Council received numerous applications and held interviews with three applicants. Judge Leigh rose to the top as the best person for this position at this time.

In his application, Leigh shared, “I am humbled to have the opportunity to apply and am fully prepared to accept the responsibilities and requirements of the position. I look forward to carrying on the professionalism that Judge Owens has instilled in the Municipal Court. I have thoughtfully considered the professional sacrifice it will require by reducing my private practice and… advocating for and representing the neutral position that is required of the Municipal Judgeship.”

Judge Leigh has already served as a municipal judge, alternate municipal judge, and Circuit Court magistrate judge, and he strives to “Treat all equally and with fairness.” Leigh values giving back to the community and has volunteered with Search and Rescue since 2010.

Making the appointment, Mayor Morton Levinson expressed gratitude to everyone that applied sharing that it was an impressive slate of candidates, which showed the immense talent of community members in this valley. Upon learning of his appointment Leigh shared, “I thank the Town Council for their support and look forward to serving the people of Jackson and Teton County. I am honored and proud to serve in this post and look forward to continuing my service to our community.”
