Draft Downtown Parking and Mobility Management Plan Released
Jackson, Wyo. The Draft Downtown Parking and Mobility Management Plan was released on March 28, 2019. This Plan contains draft recommendations from consultant Kimley Horn intended to improve parking availability, reduce traffic congestion, and increase pedestrian and bike mobility in the Town Square and surrounding areas.
In particular, the Plan focuses on the highly seasonal needs (i.e., summer peak) of Jackson’s parking congestion that includes high levels of usage by locals, employees, and tourists. The Plan also includes detailed summaries of existing parking conditions and the community outreach process thus far.
“Nearly everyone has a strong opinion about parking in the Town Square area,” said Paul Anthony, Principal Planner for the Town of Jackson. “Our downtown is the heart of the community and it’s a place that we all experience together.“
The community is invited to attend a presentation given by consultant Kimley Horn on the Plan’s recommendations at a public open house on Tuesday, April 9 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the Wort Hotel in the Jackson Room. The community will also be able to provide public comment at this open house.
In addition, the Town Council will hold a workshop on the Plan on Wednesday, April 10, from 10:00am to noon in the Council Chambers of the Town Hall (150 East Pearl Avenue). Public comment will not likely be taken at the Council workshop, but there will be future opportunities for public comment at the Planning Commission and Town Council meetings planned for later this spring when the Town begins the process to consider formal adoption of the Downtown Parking and Mobility Management Plan.
The goal of the Downtown Parking and Mobility Plan is to ensure that downtown parking contributes better to the economic vitality of the community in a way that reflects the community’s character. The Plan provides the public and decision-makers important data and recommendations that integrate all forms of travel, leverages new technology, and creates a long-term framework to address the staffing and funding levels necessary to successfully implement various recommendations.
