Water Quality News Flash

Water Quality and Conservation

Reduce water consumption and save.

  • Save Water: The timing of spring runoff is happening earlier, leading to drier conditions in the fall and increased wildfire risk. Reducing water consumption helps preserve surface and ground water and makes our community more drought resilient.
  • Save Energy: Conserving water saves energy and reduces pollution.
  • Save Money: Conserving water reduces both water and electricity consumption, saving you money on your water and electricity bills.

Ways you can save money and conserve water

  1. Fix leaks:  Help Save 10,000 gallons of water | Savings of 10% of your water bill
  2. Go low flow:  Install low flow shower heads, toilets, & faucets | Savings: $110 per year and 11,000 gallons of water
  3. Shorter showers: 2,080 gallons of water, and 738 kWh of energy | Savings: $60 per year
  4. Run full loads for dishes & laundry: 1,716 gallons of water | Savings: $30 per year
  5. Landscape wisely: Raise moving blades to 3-4 inches, sprinkle lawns at dawn and dusk only every other day, and don't water when it is raining. Change to weather-based irrigation systems and use native plants | Savings: $106 per year and 11,700 gallons of water

Source Water Protection Tips

Protecting drinking water is everyone's responsibility. You can help protect our community's drinking water source in the following ways:

  • Eliminate excess use of lawn and garden fertilizers and pesticides -they contain hazardous chemicals that can reach drinking water sources.
  • If you have your own septic system, properly maintain it to reduce leaching to water sources and consider connecting to a public water system.
  • Dispose of chemicals properly; take used motor oil and other pollutants to the recycling center.
  • Pick up after your pets.
