Town Seeks Applicants for Municipal Judge
The Town of Jackson is now seeking applications for the position of Municipal Judge. Current Judge Melissa Owens was appointed to the 9th Circuit by Governor Gordon and her last day as Municipal Judge for the Town of Jackson will be January 17, 2022. There are currently two active alternate Municipal Judges, Chris Leigh and Rick Manning, that are available to handle the workload until an appointment is made.
The Municipal Judge is a full-time exempt position contracted for 10-20 hours a week under for between $55,000 and $65,000 annually. The Judge is appointed by the Mayor with consent of the Council. The Municipal Judge must be a qualified elector in Teton County, Wyoming, be an active member of the Wyoming State Bar in good standing for at least 5 years, be free from any discipline by any State Bar or State Supreme Court for 5 years, and successfully pass a criminal history check, a reference check, and a pre-employment drug screen. The Municipal Judge presides over all judicial functions of the Town of Jackson Municipal Court; gives general direction to court staff, with support from the Town Finance Director; presides over trials and renders judgements for violations of Town ordinances, minor traffic violations, and any other cases within the jurisdiction of the Municipal Court; stays current with municipal laws and changes, performs related duties as required; maintains regular job attendance and adherence to working hours as needed; provides advice and training to support staff as needed.
