[ARCHIVED] Police Blotter

Police Blotter

Police Blotter
July 1, 2020

Hey Jackson!  We saw a number of thefts for this date.  We encourage everyone to lock up your stuff.  Locked those apartments, lock those cars, and lock those bikes.  There is a person or persons out there engaging in some 5-finger discounts and midnight auto.

On that note, does anyone remember the stolen vehicle in 20063249, reported on June 26, 2020?  Solved!  A big thank you to one of our brothers at the sheriff’s office who stopped the suspect walking down the highway.  The man was a dead-ringer for the one we had on surveillance video getting out of the stolen car.  Detective Figueroa followed up with the man the next day.  They had a very nice conversation in which the man admitted to stealing the vehicle and taking some items out of it.  Detective Figueroa was able to return the stolen items to the victim, who did not wish the man to be prosecuted for Burglary, but wrote the 50 year old Jackson, WY man a citation for the Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, (call it Joy-Riding).   So why not arrest him for Grand Theft Auto?  That charge requires proving an intent to permanently deprive the owner of their property.  If all you did was drive the car across town and abandon it in another location, proving that element generally isn’t possible.

On to the blotter!

20070075:  On July 1, 2020, at 3:18 p.m., RO Schmidl responded to a report of Destruction of Property.  The victim reported parking their vehicle on the 200 block of Kelly Ave.  Sometime during the time it was parked there, someone broke off their mirror, causing about $300 in damage.

20070078:  On July 1, 2020, at 3:40 p.m., Officer Mattson responded to a report of Theft.  The victim reported having a Drone Controller shipped to their address, but when they went to pick  it up, a thief had taken it first.   The victim is out $300.

20070102:  On July 1, 2020, at 6:30 p.m., Cpl. P. Smith responded to a report of Theft.  The victim reported two men in a White Dodge Grand Caravan with Massachusetts plates 147E10 took $1,200 in decorative wood from their business.  We haven’t been able to locate the suspects yet but if you see the van, give us a call.  We’d like to identify these men and have a conversation with them about taking stuff that doesn’t belong to them.

20070113:  On July 1, 2020, at 7:50 p.m., Officer Mattson responded to a report of Trespassing.   The man was apparently camping on the property belonging to a  business.  The man had previously been trespassed from the property and asked not to come back.  He did and Officer Mattson was obliged to write him a citation for Trespassing.

20070119:  On July 1, 2020, at 8:32 p.m., Cpl. P. Smith responded to a report of Theft.  The victim reported that their stereo components had been stolen from their parked vehicle sometime in the last four months.  The value of the items are about $500.  Cpl. P. Smith is attempting to do follow-up to identify the thief.
